Irving was founded by Otis Brown and J.O. Schulze in 1902 some 50 years after the region was inhabited in the early part of 1850's. There were several other smaller communities that existed withnin the region, like Sowers, Kit Shady Grove, Finley, Union Bower, Estelle and Bear Creek, but they were all amalgamated together to form the city of Irving in the year 1903. On April 14, the year 1914 the city of Irving was officially incorporated.
The two original founders of the city of Irving were both employed by the Rock Island, Gulf and Chicago Railway. After arriving within the region to survey a railroad route between the cites of Dallas and Fort Worth in the year 1902, they purchased the 80 acres owned by the Britain family and started to build the city. On the 19th of December, the year 1903 the first town lots were bought at a public auction. During 1904, the post office from Kit was relocated to Irving.
